SEO is heavily dependent on Keyword Research and Link Building. However, Keyword research is the starting point of SEO because unless you know what people search online, you won’t be able to optimize your site for those words and phrases that they use to search something using search engines. And the same for Long Tail Keywords and Exact Matched Keywords.

Long Tail Keywords VS Exact Match Keywords
When it comes to keywords, there are two broad types of it namely Long Tail Keywords and Short Tail Keywords (exact match keywords in most cases). Why Long Tail Keywords Is More Important Than Exact Match Keywords
In the recent years, you might be listening to SEO gurus and reading various articles that Long Tail keywords are more important for a business than exact match keywords.
And, that is absolutely correct!
Exact match keywords are shorter, and when you target such keywords, you bound your content to show up only when those particular keywords are searched. But, it is not that easy to show up your content on top pages when you target exact match keywords because they usually have high competition.
But, when you look at long tail keywords you will find there is usually less competition. However, there is the fact that there are low search volumes for long tail keywords than the exact match or short tail keywords.
So, you might want to ask me why you should target keywords that have very low searches as if there are fewer people searching it, you will get comparatively lesser traffic. Right?
Let me clarify this.
The reason why I am saying that Long Tail Keywords are more important for your business than the Exact Match Keywords is the Conversion.
Why do you want to build traffic on your business website?
Of course to get more sales! Right?
If you agreed with the answer, you must go for Long Tail Keywords, and I will tell you the reason.
Though I am suggesting you to go for Long Tail Keywords, it doesn’t mean you stop working on exact match. The better idea is to target a mix of both types of keywords.
Now, let me tell you how Long Tail Keywords are better and more important.
Let’s understand this with an example
If you have to buy a pair of shoes online, and you are not sure which site to go for, then what you do?
Of course, you open Google.com and type a few queries to find the best one of your choice according to your budget. But, here the question is what will be your search queries?
I am sure, you will search something like these:
“Best sports shoes within $2000”
“Durable sports shoes in $2500”
“Buy Black shoes at $1000”
These are just the examples and ideas, your search queries might be different ones. But, one thing is sure that your search query will be a little longer because you want to buy shoes at your specifications.
You probably won’t search “Buy Shoes” or “sports shoes” if you are ready to buy. Yes, if you just want to have a look at the catalog, you may type these short queries. But, when you search for buying, it’s quite usual your queries are little longer. And, that’s where Long Tail Keywords are important for online websites.
Hope you understood now that Long Tail keywords fetch more genuine buyers to your website than exact match keywords.
So if you want genuine buyers, go for Long Tail Keywords. However, you can have a mix of both types of keywords to diversify your traffic. Because many times, your normal visitors that come to your site by exact match keywords for viewing the products only, may later become your customers. So, both types of keywords you should use.
One more benefit of using Long keywords and that is it is quite easier to get better ranking as they usually have low competition.
Long Tail Keywords send comparatively lesser traffic but most of them are genuine buyers, and that’s what a business need. Less traffic but more conversion that’s what you get when you focus on Long Tail Keywords.
